April Noise 2012

Purity Ring Debut

Electro-pop outfit Purity Ring, (aka Megan James & Corin Roddick) have finally announced they will be releasing their debut album "Shrines" on July 24th on 4AD & Last Gang Records. They have also announced they will be touring with Dirty Projectors from late April through till July.

They've also just released their brand new single "Obedear" from the upcoming album to give you a taste of what's to come...

Lord Of The Loop

Deerhunter’s Lockett Pundt has just this month released his second album under the solo moniker Lotus Plaza. 2012's "Spooky Action At A Distance"  is the follow-up to his 2009 solo debut "The Flashlight Collective", an album which was praised by critics, yet simply deemed as a continuation of his Deerhunter reverb-drenched structure.

This new record far surpases all pre-determined artistic expectations and easily stands as the best indie-rock album released so far this year. Managing to balance incredible layers of complexity with smart pop sensibility. Lockett has outdone himself this time, and has reinstated himself once again as "lord of the loop".

While it should be noted that this album must truly be heard in its entirety to fully appreciate its genius and brutal honesty, I invite you to  turn off your mind-lights and come get lost in the nostalgic dreamscape that is Lotus Plaza.

Dead Gaze

Dead Gaze is the brainchild of one Cole Furlow, just one of many amazing acts being uncovered from Mississippi's current DIY music scene. Since releasing their first cassette in 2010, Cole has been honing in and perfecting his sound through an extensive history of live performances within his community. Since then they have released a number of singles and split EPs, moving from their early Flaming Lips sound to now completely oozing with that sweet garagey lo-fi fuzz.

Late last year saw the completion of there latest self-titled EP. Have a listen to this hooky opening track "This Big World". Fans of film director Kai Neville may recognize this anthem from last years surf film Lost Atlas.

For The Greater Good?

Late last year Josh Tillman had announced he would be stepping down as drummer from Seattles folk-rockers Fleet Foxes. Writing/recording his own music since 2004, he has just announced the release of his debut album under his mischevious alter-ego Father John Misty. This album came to fruition during a time Tillman can only describe as an 'immobilizing period of depression' while he was living in Seattle.

"Songwriting for me had always only been interesting and necessary because I saw it as this vehicle for truth, but i had this realisation that all I had realy done with it was lick my wounds for years and years, and become more and more isolated from people and experiences. I don't even like wound-licking music. Ï want to listen to someone rip their arm off and beat themselves with it. I don't believe that until now i've ever put anything at risk in my music. I was hell-bent on putting my preciousness at stake in order to find something worth singing about. "

He continues "I lost all interest in writing music, or identifying as a 'songwriter'. I got into my van with enough mushrooms to choke a horse and started driving down the coast with nowhere to go. After a few weeks, i was writing a novel, which is where i finally found my narrative voice. The voice that is actually usefull."

"Fear Fun" will be released May 1st through Sub Pop Records.
